My aunt that lives in Virginia was telling me this about the water parks and how they are more popular now than before there. I think its great because its a safe and fun place for kids to play. Me and my family usually visit the Great Wolf Lodge that is located near us but we always visit the water parks in Virginia when we visit.

Bull Run Park has a great campground. So you could take out at Bull Run and camp there for the night, and continue on the next day.

I paddled from Bull Run to Bull Run Marina a few years ago and it is not great paddling. It can be shallow and lot of trees accross the stream. I would recommend Spring as the best season since the water level will be higher.

From Bull Run Marina all the way down the reservoir is great paddling.

Do you happen to know if there is an areas along Bull Run that are suitable for camping? My friends and I were trying to plan a canoe trip from a little further up stream on Bull Run Creek and were thinking we could canoe for a few hours one day and camp one night and finish at Bull Run Marina the next day. Any advice or recommendations?

I enjoyed reading your comments about Dean Tice and his thoughts on the purpose of recreation.Back in the 90's a gentleman named Fred Engh looked around the youth sports landscape and realized we were letting our youth down in the arena of sports and recreation. He realized that over 90% of youth stop playing organized sports by middle school because they are not having fun, or have been told they are not good enough.Why would we design programs to service the 10% and neglect the 90%? So he started the National Alliance for Youth (NAYS), an organization that trains adults to organize leagues and programs that put the kids first, teaches sports as a life long pursuit of happiness and trains coaches to put team building and self esteem first. Some states have adopted NAYS training and require it for all recreation youth coaches.Go to www.nays.org to read more about what positive youth activities can do for this country.

W&OD is, indeed, an amazing resource Paul and kudos to you both for braving the heat! Sounds like you were well prepared and glad to hear the other visitors were so kind :-) I recall last year when several of our Parks & Recreation students from George Mason, along with NVCC Recreation students came together and worked with the awesome folks at NVRPA to do a little trail clean-up. Everyone had a super time and were so amazed by this excellent park resource!

You do not need kids to have fun camping at Bull Run or going to Atlantis Waterpark. The Waterpark has a 20 foot slide that is a blast.

Bull Run is the trailhead for the Bull Run/Occoquan Trail, an 18 mile natural surface trail through the woods. Even if you don't do 18 miles, it is a great way to get excersize and re-connect with nature.

This would be a great location for a park, and we need more river access on the Virginia side of the Potomac, as well as camping areas. I would love to see a park here. Area residents should also be reminded that the types of people who use camping and boat ramp parks tend to be circumspect and lovers of nature. I have often seen boaters bring out more trash than they brought in, and I always carry extra trashbags in my kayaks just for that. Boyscouts and other campers have the same mentality.

Korean Gardens a different from the Japanese gardens that people are familiar with. Where Japanese gardens have little bonsai trees and it seems every little detail is planned, Korean gardens are much more natural looking. The elements are trees (a lot of red pine, ginkgo, and maple) large rough cut stones on terraced hill sides, and some water flowing from pond to pond in small channels.

I really like the wild natural beauty of these gardens.

IT IS JUST LOOKS LIKE JAPANESE GARDEN, BUT SOMTHING DIFFERENT WITH IT IE.THE BELL IS STAYING SO LOWER LEVEL, GARDEN LANTERN IS BIT CHEAPY, STRAIGHT WALKING LINE, SQUARE POUND, SO ON.
